For those of you living with chronic pain, every day is a never-ending chore to get through. Simple tasks like cooking dinner, exercising, or gardening become episodes to be gotten through as quickly as possible. The joy of your daily life is diminished, only a shadow of what it used to be.
In many cases, the pain you’re experiencing now is often the result of a series of small events that, when looked at as a whole, leads to the real reason why you’re experiencing pain. Muscle imbalance issues, and how they affect movement and stability, are often the root cause of chronic pain.
Normally, healthy muscles pull in opposite directions and both have equal strengths and lengths that allow your joints to move as they’re supposed to. When one of these muscles gets tight, however, it begins to demand more attention from our Central Nervous System (CNS).
The tight muscle gets what it asks for, but continues to tighten if left untreated. Its opposing muscle, on the other hand, gets longer and weaker because it’s now getting less attention from the CNS. This is how imbalances start, resulting in your body just not functioning the way it’s supposed to.
There is a relatively unheard of technique called “corrective exercise,” which is often described as falling somewhere in between physical therapy and personal training. Corrective exercise focuses on the underlying mechanical cause of pain, not just on ways to get rid of pain. It uses unique exercises that address these imbalances and misalignments to relieve stress in the body.
It’s based on the simple fact that each muscle is connected to another. By reintroducing proper structure in the body, structure can improve and you can move freely and with lessoning pain as time goes by.
Corrective exercise focuses on the whole body, not just the injured area. Improving function will ensure that the body functions the way it should: efficiently and effortlessly, with no undo stress on any one part. It’s a method that allows us to live a more productive, comfortable life.
If you’re tired of spending your life constantly looking for relief and are motivated to try something new that is proven to work, corrective exercise might be for you.
